Buenos Aires is more known for its world-renowned culture than famous monuments. The city, as well as the inhabitants, is characterized by pride in its character and uniqueness. Location: The City of Buenos Aires is the capital of the Argentine Republic and is located in the southern hemisphere, latitude 34º 36’ and longitude 58º 26’. The city extends on a plain and has 202 square kilometers (78.3 sq miles). Approximately 3 million people live in this city. Including the metropolitan area, the total population of Buenos Aires is above ten millions, making it one of the 10 most populated urban centers in the world.

The Río de la Plata and the Riachuelo are the natural borders of the city on the east and south, respectively. The rest of the metropolitan perimeter is surrounded by the General Paz Avenue from north to west. This avenue provides a fast connection between the city and the Greater Buenos Aires, a densely populated area with important business and industrial activity.

When to get there: Throughout the year, as its many attractions and its wide range of hotels make Buenos Aires a city ready to receive tourists in any season. Enjoy the warm temperatures from September to April, and the mild winter months from June to August.

Weather: During the summer (Sept-Apr) the temperatures are pleasant, ranging between 18º C and 23º C, while winter (Jun-Aug) is cold, with an average temperature of 7º C.

The Tango
The Argentine music par excellence, it was born in the surroundings of the port of Buenos Aires. At the beginning, having originated in the brothels of the city, it was a forbidden dance. Little by little, it turned into a popular dance until it became the elegant dance of the High Society, reaching its highest international popularity with Carlos Gardel, who took it all over the world with his songs and films. At present, there are numerous clubs that offer excellent tango shows featuring the best artists and dancers. It is also possible to take tango lessons and dance with experts.

Theaters
There are many theater complexes in Buenos Aires, among them the outstanding Colon Theater, built in 1908 and dedicated mostly to opera. The world’s finest musicians and dancers usually perform on its stage, praising its remarkable acoustics. Although is now closed for repairs, its permanent artistic staff continues to perform on other stages.

Museums
Buenos Aires’ museums gained international recognition exhibiting the work of outstanding local and foreign artists. The Fine Arts Museum, the City Museum, the Buenos Aires Latin American Art Museum (MALBA), the Decorative Art Museum, the Isaac Fernandez Blanco Hispanic-American Art Museum and the Recoleta Cultural Centre are some of Buenos Aires’ prestigious and attractive art locations.
