San
Martin de los Andes
It is the second important centre of this part of the Andes and the
head of the Lanin National Park, which harbours 24 glacial lakes.
With only 17,000 inhabitants, San Martin is located on the shore of
Lacar Lake. The town center and the outskirts have the typical architecture of the high mountains with flowers and gardens. It can be reached
from Bariloche or Villa La Angostura, along the Seven-Lake Road. A
spectacular view of the landscape may be enjoyed from the Mirador
Arrayan by the entrance of the city. The beautiful landscape is dominated
by Lanin Volcano (3,774m above sea level), whose summit is covered
by a thick layer of ice. more...
Villa
Quila Quina
4 km from San Martín de los Andes is the access to Playa Catritre
on the left margin of Lacar Lake. This is an attractive area due to
its vegetation and its waters, apt for nautical sports. Further on,
a detour of the road leads to the Residential Villa Quila Quina, where
you can still see the ancient houses belonging to the Mapuche Curruhuinca
group. Here, you can visit the Arroyo Grande Cascade, a source of
carbonated mineral water, and admire the rupestrian paintings of the
area.
Chapelco
Hill
The ski slopes of Chapelco are ideal for learning and practicing this
sport thanks to their inclination and to the steepness of some sectors.
Offers an excellent panoramic view of the Andes and the Lanin Volcano.
In the summer, the spur of the hill is an attractive place for alternative
tourism and activities such as mountain climbing, horseback riding,
archery, mountain bike, walks and rides on special vehicles. |
